Casual Designs of Cape Cod

Much has changed since Casual Designs of Cape Cod opened in Harwichport more than three and half decades ago. As outdoor spaces have become more important to homeowners, the style, selection and materials of outdoor furniture and accessories have expanded. “The outdoor furniture and accessories available to today’s consumer can make an elegant and sophisticated statement in any area of the house — inside and out,” says owner Rick Concordia, who bought the business with his wife in 1999.

The thriving company, which recently moved its second location in Mashpee to an expansive 12,000-square-foot showroom in Marstons Mills, carries outdoor dining sets and seating, including Adirondack chairs, chaise lounges, couches and sectionals, fire pits and tables as well as accessories, such as umbrellas and casual tableware from 30 manufacturers. Concordia asserts, “Casual Designs of Cape Cod has the largest selection of outdoor furnishings available on Cape Cod between our two locations.”

In addition to a wider selection of products available, today’s outdoor furnishings are trending towards a more modern, streamlined look. Sectionals with fire pits and synthetic wicker mixed with teak also are popular, says Concordia, as well as furniture frames in neutral colors, like gray and taupe, and solid fabrics with throw pillows to add a pop of color.

With so many outdoor living products on the market, it can be difficult to wade through the options. At Casual Designs, says Concordia, “We like to pinpoint people’s needs and their preferences when they visit our showrooms, and how they will be using their outdoor space. Our goal is to create outdoor spaces that are equal in function and flair to that of the home’s interior.”
