This March, Cheryl Rizzico-Smith put her passion for home and design to good use, opening Atlantic Dry Goods (104 Palmer Ave., Falmouth: 508-540-5800), an imaginative vintage furniture shop in downtown Falmouth. As a creative outlet, Rizzico-Smith alters and refinishes furniture, sometimes adding a coat of chalk paint or a new top to a table—whatever the piece calls for, she says. “I pick furniture with good bones and classic lines,” she explains, which is evident in such pieces as an eye-catching chair she refashioned for the garden. Deconstructed and waterproofed, the chair now has a whimsical seat covered in real moss and a rustic burlap backrest. “I like natural materials and handmade [products],” she says, adding that almost everything in her shop has a personal touch to it or has been handcrafted or locally made. Atlantic Dry Goods also carries home accessories, jewelry and giftware for an eclectic, one-of-a-kind shop.
